Investigator
Kumanan Wilson, MD (Western Ontario), MSc (McMaster) is the
investigator responsible for the development of the
Public Health Policy resource.
Dr. Wilson is a specialist in General Internal Medicine at the
Toronto General Hospital. He is also an Associate Professor
in the Departments of Medicine and Health Policy, Management
and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. He also holds appointments at the
Institute of Intergovernmental Relations at Queen’s University and the
University of Ottawa Centre for Clinical Transfusion Research.
As a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) New
Investigator, Dr. Wilson's research has focused on studying
policy making in areas of health protection. His work has included
analyses of how the Canadian blood system has managed theoretical
infectious risks and the potential impact of a change in payment
mechanisms on the delivery of blood services. This research
has been published in peer reviewed medical journals including
the British Medical Journal and the Canadian Medical Association
Journal. He currently holds a CIHR grant to study the emerging
debate on pediatric vaccinations.
Dr. Wilson has also conducted research into the impact of intergovernmental relations
on health policy. He authored a chapter in Federalism, Democracy, and Health Policy in
Canada on the role of federalism in health surveillance. He has also published articles in
academic journals describing the impact of intergovernmental relations on the delivery of
health care and public health.

Dr. Wilson received his MD from the University of Western Ontario
and completed his fellowship training in general internal medicine
at McMaster University. He received his MSc. in Health Research
Methods from McMaster University.
